Plot

In the quiet outskirts of Paris, Thérèse Langlois lives a solitary existence, managing a small, barely bustling café. Her heart clings to the memory of her husband, long lost but never forgotten. His absence, a painful void since the tumultuous times of World War Two, casts a long shadow over her life. One ordinary day, a vagrant drifts past her café, stirring a flicker of recognition in Thérèse's heart. Could this tramp, scarred by life and robbed of his memories, truly be the man she's spent years yearning for? Driven by a mix of desperation and hope, Thérèse embarks on a mission to awaken the stranger's dormant past. But the labyrinth of the human mind proves challenging, her efforts to kindle his lost memories meet with failure. As the mystery deepens, the question lingers: Is this stranger the embodiment of her long-lost love? Before she can find her answers, the drifter vanishes again into the world he came from. Alone once more, Thérèse is left with her café, her questions, and an undying hope. A hope that perhaps, one day, the man who might be her husband will return. The Long Absence is a poignant tale of love, loss, and the relentless optimism of the human heart.
