Plot

Beneath the stifling heat of the Singapore sun, British countryman Robert Crosbie has toiled for seven long years on a rubber plantation. This remote existence, far from the allure of civilized society, is a sacrifice borne heavily by his wife of ten years, the restless Leslie Crosbie. An unspoken tension permeates the air, born from a secret that Robert is oblivious to - Leslie's consuming affair with family friend, Geoffrey Hammond, an affair that borders on the brink of obsession. However, Geoffrey's affections wane, fading into the exotic allure of a biracial English/Chinese woman, Li Ti. He candidly confesses to Leslie his intent to choose Li Ti over her, a revelation that stirs a tempest within her. As Robert ventures out to acquire a new rifle, Leslie pens a letter to Geoffrey, giving voice to her yearning for his attention. The unexpected happens when Geoffrey is found slain within the confines of the Crosbie abode, with Leslie facing trial for murder. Her defense? A claim of self-defense against the unrequited love of Geoffrey, a man she alleges to have not seen in months until the fateful night he was shot. However, a single piece of evidence threatens to shatter her defense - the letter Leslie fervently believes to have been destroyed. This letter, an invite to the unsuspecting Geoffrey to visit her on that fatal night, could be the pivotal point that determines Leslie's destiny. As the courtroom awaits the verdict, Leslie Crosbie's fate hangs in the balance, shrouded in a cloud of deceit, passion, and betrayal.
