Plot

In the tumultuous world of criminal law, Martin Strang (Milburn Stone) is a renowned attorney, infamous for his uncanny ability to set the guilty free. However, when he's compelled to defend a deranged killer—one he previously liberated from a similar charge—his moral compass begins to spin uncontrollably. His wife Lucille (Katherine deMille), entangled in a clandestine affair with Dr. James Anderson (Stanley Waxman), the county's police psychiatrist, manipulates Strang's turmoil for her own purposes, eventually pushing him to the brink of sanity. In an impassioned quest for revenge against his wife's deceit and to atone for his career missteps, Strang drafts a will bequeathing his wealth to the victims of the criminals he once defended. But fate has other plans when he inadvertently witnesses a crime committed by the enigmatic William Jackson (Paul Guilfoyle). The peculiarities of this murder case ignite Strang's twisted legal mind, prompting him to defend Jackson using an ingenious legal loophole. But as Strang manipulates Jackson in a desperate bid to validate his career choices, his scheme horribly unravels, culminating in his own murder. In a cunning twist, evidence Strang had planted earlier incriminates Dr. Anderson and Lucille, leading to their arrest. The Judge (1949) is an enthralling tale of deceit, revenge, and the haunting consequences of guilt, promising a gripping journey into the dark corners of law and morality.
