Plot

The Jewish Cardinal unfolds the astounding real-life journey of Jean-Marie Lustiger, a child of Polish-Jewish immigrants, who, despite his youthful conversion to Catholicism and subsequent ascension to priesthood, never let go of his Jewish roots. His swift rise in the ecclesiastical hierarchy culminates in his appointment as the Archbishop of Paris by Pope Jean Paul II. This elevated position provides Lustiger with an unanticipated stage to embrace and celebrate his dual identity as a Jewish Catholic - a choice that garners him both allies and adversaries from both ends of the religious spectrum. The narrative takes a dramatic turn when Carmelite nuns decide to establish a convent within the ominous confines of Auschwitz. Suddenly, Lustiger is thrust into the role of a peacemaker between the two faith communities. A situation that, perhaps for the first time, may compel him to choose his spiritual allegiance.
