The House of the Spirits (1993)

In the heart of Chile, during the latter half of the 20th century, a tale of love and destiny unfolds. Esteban, a man of humble beginnings, is fuelled by an unyielding desire to marry Rosa, the enchanting sister of the young clairvoyant, Clara. He toils in the gold mines, amassing wealth that eventually enables him to purchase a quaint farm in the countryside. A letter of proposal is sent to Rosa, but tragedy strikes in harmony with Clara's ominous prediction of a family death. Rosa's unexpected passing plunges Esteban into despair and solitude on his farm, his dreams shattered. Despite hardships, Esteban's relentless work ethic propels him to affluence. A chance encounter at his mother's funeral reconnects him with a now grown Clara, breaking her self-imposed vow of silence as he proposes marriage.
