The Healer (2017)

Struggling with the haunting loss of his twin brother and drowning in a whirlpool of gambling debts, Alec Bailey is a bankrupt electrical repairman living on the fringes of existence. His life takes a dramatic turn when he learns of his long-lost Uncle Richard, who resides in the quaint town of Halifax, Nova Scotia. In a bid to rescue Alec from his dire circumstances, Richard proposes a bargain: a year of Alec's life in Halifax in exchange for his financial salvation. Reluctantly, Alec embarks on this journey, only to find himself thrust into an extraordinary role in the community. The villagers, steeped in local lore, proclaim him 'The Chosen One', a miracle worker with the power to heal all ailments. However, not everyone welcomes Alec with open arms. The local Sheriff, skeptical of this newcomer, wages a personal war against Alec, convinced he is a charlatan preying on the villagers' faith. Amidst this turmoil, Alec finds solace in Cecilia, a compassionate veterinarian whose charm begins to mend his broken heart. As Alec grapples with his unexpected destiny, Richard unveils a family secret: their lineage carries a gift of healing, a generational blessing that can only be embraced or rejected on one's thirtieth birthday. Overwhelmed, Alec renounces his gift, only to cross paths with Abigail, a vibrant, sharp-tongued 14-year-old battling terminal cancer. Under the guise of proving his inability to cure her, Alec agrees to spend a weekend with Abigail, away from her overprotective parents. Amidst their shared adventure, Alec witnesses Abigail's indomitable spirit, causing him to question the choices he's made in his life. Desperate for redemption, he pleads for a chance to reclaim his gift and save Abigail. However, when Richard reveals the irrevocability of his decision, Alec must find an alternative way to gift Abigail the best weekend of her life, discovering in the process the true meaning of healing.
