Plot

In the heart-warming tale of The Grocer's Son (2007), we follow the journey of Antoine Sforza, a man in his thirties who abandoned his quaint village life a decade ago for the bustling allure of the city. His tranquil existence is jolted when his father, a peripatetic grocer, suffers a stroke, pulling Antoine back to his rustic roots. Reluctantly, he steps into his father's shoes, taking over the mobile grocery rounds, a task he executes with rough edges and an urban bluntness that grates against the harmony of the locals. Not alone in this journey, Antoine brings along Claire, the object of his affection, yet who teeters on the brink of commitment. As they navigate through the picturesque landscapes of Provence, selling mostly to the elderly, Claire's keen business sense proves invaluable. Her intuitive approach helps Antoine to soften his city-hardened exterior, allowing him to serve rather than offend his customers. However, the tranquility of the countryside does little to quell the simmering tensions within his own family. His relationship with his brother François is strained, and his father's scorn for him remains undiminished. The situation only escalates when his father returns to the village, adding fuel to the already blazing familial discord. The Grocer's Son is a captivating exploration of family dynamics, love, and the clash between urban and rural life, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Provencal countryside.
