Plot

In the rhythmic ticking world of watchmaking, Hawkins leads a discreet life. Yet, when the chime of the hour strikes, he transforms into a proficient freelance assassin, his craft as precise as the timepieces he mends. His latest mission, however, is set not in the shadowy alleyways of foreign lands, but in the green pastures of England. His task is to retire a puffed-up government minister, Sir Gregory Upshoot, a man whose arrogance is as vast as his empire. The stage for the final act is the Green Man, a quaint hotel nestled on the country's south coast, where Sir Gregory is set to escape for some secret indulgence. But as Hawkins readies himself to permanently 'retire' his target, he finds himself confronted with an array of intrusive visitors at his home, each a distraction that must be dealt with, one way or another. Amidst this chaos, a curveball named William Blake enters the scene. A seemingly ordinary vacuum cleaner salesman, Blake unwittingly stumbles upon this deadly plot. Struggling to convince the authorities of the looming danger, he embarks on a perilous journey to the Green Man. With a blend of courage and desperation, he takes it upon himself to thwart Hawkins' plans and save Sir Gregory. 'The Green Man' is a ticking time bomb of suspense and unexpected alliances, set amidst the backdrop of England's serene beauty. This 1956 gem invites viewers on a thrilling ride where time, trust, and a sense of duty play a deadly game of cat and mouse.
