Plot

In the heart of a rustic Australian lumber town, circa 1939, a unique love triangle comes to fruition. Marge, portrayed by Rachel Ward, is a woman yearning for excitement, trapped in a mundane marriage to the good-natured, but uninspiring Sonny, played by Bryan Brown. Her dreams of romance are stirred when Sonny's youthful brother Sugar, brought to life by Steven Vidler, becomes an unexpected participant in their relationship at Sonny's own behest. In the midst of this peculiar triad, a charismatic stranger named Neville, embodied by Sam Neill, presents himself. Despite the multitude of women he attracts, including every other woman in town, Neville is drawn to the one woman who initially resists his charm - Marge. Feeling neglected by the lackluster affections at home, Marge eventually succumbs to Neville's allure, setting off a curious chain of events. The fallout, however, doesn't come from the placid Sonny but rather the immature Sugar, sparking an unforeseen wave of jealousy. This narrative cleverly weaves a tale of desire, betrayal, and the eternal quest for fulfillment in a world where love and lust are as interchangeable as the men in Marge's life.
