The Extra Man (2010)

Stepping straight out of the pages of a F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, Louis, a young, idealistic educator, finds his world turned upside down when a scandal involving a found brassiere costs him his job. With nothing more than dreams of becoming a writer and finding his true self, Louis embarks on a journey to the bustling labyrinth of New York City. Once there, he stumbles upon an ad for a housemate, posted by the peculiar yet intriguing, Henry Harrison. An unconventional bond forms between the two as they navigate the eccentricities of their shared living situation. Louis secures a position at a green-focused magazine, peddling advertising space and nursing a budding affection for his colleague, Mary. In this new world, Louis encounters Gershon, Henry's hirsute neighbor, and is introduced to Henry's unique profession as an "extra man." In this role, he serves as a paid companion - a modern-day gigolo - for society's mature women. As Louis is thrust into this world, he is left to juggle these diverse experiences while trying to meet his own high expectations. Will Louis manage to balance these competing realities?
