Once a five-time all-around world rodeo champion, Sonny Steele finds himself entangled in the dazzling yet soul-crushing world of corporate advertising. Retired from the rodeo, he becomes the face of multinational conglomerate Ampco's breakfast cereal, Ranch Breakfast, clad in electrically lit cowboy costumes and a forced mustache to enhance his cowboy persona. Yet, as he is paraded around like a circus act, the once proud rodeo star finds himself sinking deeper into a pit of despair, often resorting to alcohol and becoming a mere puppet in the hands of the ruthless publicity machine.
