In the vibrant swing of the 1930s, Eddy Duchin, a charming Bostonian fresh out of pharmacy school, trades in his mortar and pestle for a dream of striking piano keys in bustling New York City. His talent, a melodious blend of charisma and compositions, had once caught the ear of band leader Leo Reisman during a college performance. Now, Eddy hopes to join Reisman's renowned ensemble at the illustrious Central Park Casino. However, the reality of his job offer is not as harmonious as Eddy had pictured. Despite these discordant beginnings, Eddy's star starts to ascend with the help of New York socialite and interior designer, Marjorie Oelrichs. Marjorie, a woman of wealth who chooses work over ease, becomes Eddy's loudest cheerleader, her support instrumental in his rise to fame. Their lives intertwine in a crescendo of love, leading to marriage and the birth of their son, Peter. However, a personal tragedy strikes a sour note in Eddy's symphony of success, causing him to retreat from everything associated with the heartache.
