Plot

In the tumultuous world of English football circa 1974, the audacious Brian Clough ascends to managerial supremacy, replacing the legendary Don Revie at the helm of Leeds United - then, a titan of the sport. However, Clough's abrasive approach, coupled with his disdain for the team's rough playing style, creates an undercurrent of tension, igniting a storm of friction that leads to Leeds' worst start in two decades and Clough's unceremonious dismissal merely 44 days later. The narrative then weaves a rich tapestry of flashbacks, delving into the genesis of Clough's rivalry with Revie. A perceived snub in a 1968 FA Cup match fuels Clough's relentless pursuit to outshine Revie, propelling him to transform Derby County into league champions. Yet, his monumental ego and disregard for others ultimately precipitate his downfall at Leeds. Simultaneously, the film unfolds the poignant thread of Clough's relationship with his loyal right-hand man, Peter Taylor, who remains with Brighton & Hove Albion. His absence is deeply felt, as Clough grapples with the turbulence at Leeds. 'The Damned United' is a riveting exploration of Clough's ambitious journey - a man driven by desire to be the best, only to be undone by his own hubris. Yet, despite this initial stumble, Clough triumphantly re-emerges in later years, leading his teams to resounding victories, and thus, earning the title of 'the greatest manager England never had'. This film captures the tumult, triumphs, and trials of a man who dared to challenge the status quo in a sport ruled by tradition and legacy.
