The Curse of the Werewolf (1961)

In the heart of 18th-century Spain, the tale unfolds as a destitute beggar, seeking sustenance, stumbles upon the castle of a ruthlessly cruel marquee on his wedding day. His plea for food is met with scorn and he is cast into the dungeon where he is forgotten by all except the jailer's mute daughter. Through the years, she feeds and cares for the imprisoned beggar, their relationship evolving in the oppressive shadows. As the years pass, the jailer's daughter, now a woman, draws the gaze of the marquee. His advances are rebuffed, resulting in her imprisonment alongside the beggar, leading to a fateful encounter that changes the course of her life. Escaping the confines of the castle, she finds solace in the wild forest, emerging more beast than woman. She is eventually discovered by the kind-hearted Don Alfredo, who brings her back to the realm of men. In the safety of Don Alfredo's home, the woman gives birth to a son, Leon, on the sacred day of Christmas. Her life, however, is claimed by the ordeal, leaving Leon in the care of Don Alfredo and his servant Teresa. As Leon grows, a dark secret unravels - a curse that transforms him into a werewolf. Despite the curse, Don Alfredo and Teresa are advised by a local priest to nurture Leon with love. Blossoming into a young man, Leon finds work in a wine cellar where he falls in love with the owner's daughter, Cristina. But his life is far from ordinary. With every full moon, Leon succumbs to his curse, transforming into a werewolf and striking fear into the heart of the town.
