Plot

In the heart of 17th century Kyoto, Osan, the dignified wife of Ishun, a tight-fisted yet respected scroll-maker, finds herself ensnared in the web of her family's crushing debt and the looming downfall of their ancestral home. With desperation lurking in the shadows, Osan turns to Mohei, her husband's compassionate employee, as her unlikely ally. However, their alliance is threatened when a clear-cut forgery and an absurd accusation of an illicit affair are thrust upon them. With no choice but to flee from Ishun's oppressive household, Osan and Mohei dive into the harsh labyrinth of Osaka's streets, their futures uncertain, their names tarnished by scandalous whispers and troubling rumors. An unspoken affection blossoms amidst their struggle for survival, leading them to declare their clandestine love for each other in the face of adversity. Yet, the vengeful Ishun, desperate to avert public humiliation, unleashes his men to hunt down the star-crossed lovers and tear them apart. In this poignant tale of love and sacrifice inspired by the works of Chikamatsu, Osan and Mohei fight a seemingly hopeless battle against fate. But what destiny awaits these crucified lovers in the heart of a society that shows them no mercy? Only time will tell.
