Plot

In the heart of Brussels, the life of modern composer Lewis Dodd takes an unexpected turn. After the humiliating failure of his latest symphony in London's Regent Theatre, dismissed as too mechanical, he finds solace in a melodic piece he had once composed for his dear friends, the Sangers. This impoverished family of musicians, nestled in a quaint mountain chalet in the Swiss Alps, hold a special place in his heart. The patriarch, Albert Sanger, discerns an untapped talent in Lewis for melody writing, contrary to his usual mathematical style, and urges him to expand his melodic trifle into a grand symphonic poem. In the midst of these artistic endeavors, a quiet love story unfolds. Tessa Sanger, a teenager with a delicate heart that crumbles more under emotional stress than physical exertion, cherishes a lifelong affection for Lewis. Her innocent love blooms into a romantic yearning, unbeknownst to Lewis himself. His heart, instead, is captivated by Tessa's cosmopolitan cousin, Florence Creighton, who arrives from London with her father Charles to care for the penniless Sangers following Albert's demise. Lewis and Florence embark on a marital journey, leaving the Swiss Alps for Florence's lavish estate in England. As Tessa and her sister Paula are dispatched to a finishing school, Florence's jealousy over her husband's bond with Tessa begins to simmer. With their escape from the school and Tessa's subsequent move into Florence and Lewis's residence, the tension escalates. The narrative intertwines the complexities of love, jealousy, and music, leaving one to wonder how this romantic triangle will untangle itself amidst the symphony of their lives.
