In the heart of her 40s, Flavie, a poised TV presenter, grapples with the disconcerting onset of unexpected dizzy spells and vertigo, even while under the glaring studio lights. Desperate for answers, she turns to a psychiatrist, her last sanctuary, who suggests a journey through the dusty photo albums of her childhood, a path that Flavie deems to be marked by normalcy.
As she flips through the pages, Flavie is abruptly transported back to her adolescent years, between the ages of 13 and 15, a time marked by sun-soaked holidays by the sea and the constant struggle for her father's affection, always overshadowed by the oppressive influence of her mother. Her mother, an emblem of eternal frustration and discontent, becomes bewitched by the youthful allure of her little blond girl, driving her to reshape Flavie into the teenage vision of her own thwarted dreams.
A whirlwind of strict diets, alternating bouts of abuse and admiration, and the relentless pursuit of approval from older, preferably famous men, becomes Flavie's new reality, as she becomes the trophy her mother parades down the Champs Elysées. The radiant smile on her mother's face becomes Flavie's beacon, her guiding light in this unraveled world.
The spark ignites when an old, forgotten photograph tumbles out of the album, a haunting Polaroid of a little girl in a pink dress with sorrowful eyes, captured by a renowned photographer. This image, a chilling token from the summer she turned 13, forces Flavie to confront the long-suppressed memories of a horrifying incident at Cap d'Agde. The Consolation is a poignant exploration of a woman's struggle to reconcile with her traumatic past and the interplay of power, control, and identity.
