In the harsh terrains of Afghanistan, US Army Sergeant Cody Cullen's tour of duty is abruptly terminated when his comrade-in-arms, Jonesy, tragically dies during a medical supply mission in Nurestan. Haunted by the loss, Cody embarks on a journey to return Jonesy's personal belongings to his bereaved widow. His path leads him to the quaint town of Nevada City, California, where he crosses paths with Faith Spelman, a compassionate woman who pens Christmas cards for solitary soldiers - one of which had once brought him solace during his service. In a twist of fate, Cody rescues Faith's father Luke from a perilous car accident. Grateful, the Spelman family invites Cody into their home, enveloping him in the warmth of the Christmas spirit and their family-owned logging business. Luke, a fellow war veteran, sees a potential son-in-law in Cody, but Faith's heart seems to be pledged to her seldom-seen fiancé Paul, a bustling wine broker. Despite the brewing emotional turmoil, Cody finds himself irresistibly drawn to the family's charm and the woman whose words once comforted a lonely soldier.
