Plot

In the heart of 1968 New York City, where homosexuality is largely hidden behind society's veiled curtains, a vibrant group of friends assemble for a no-holds-barred birthday bash. The party is orchestrated by Michael (Jim Parsons), a high-spirited yet self-destructive screenwriter known for his lavish lifestyle and excessive drinking, in tribute to the sharply dressed and quick-witted birthday boy, Harold (Zachary Quinto). The lively crowd consists of an array of unique personalities: Donald (Matt Bomer), Michael's ex-lover now entangled in introspection; Larry (Andrew Rannells), a flirtatious commercial artist cohabiting with Hank (Tuc Watkins), a school teacher who's recently abandoned his marital life; Bernard (Michael Benjamin Washington), a librarian cautiously navigating complex friendship dynamics alongside Emory (Robin de Jesús), an interior decorator with a penchant for unabashed honesty; and an innocent hustler (Charlie Carver) hired as Harold's outlandish birthday present. As an evening initially filled with spirited banter and flowing cocktails takes its course, it takes a dramatic pivot when Alan (Brian Hutchison), Michael's conservative college friend, makes an unexpected appearance. As the night unfolds, each man is compelled to face deeply hidden truths, unsettling revelations that challenge the very core of their tightly-knit camaraderie. This is a night that promises to blur the lines between laughter and tears, friendship and rivalry, love and resentment.
