Plot

In the shadow of Count Arnheim's palace, a tribe of Gypsies establish their transient home. Amid this motley crew, Oliver's wife embarks on a daring act of abduction, spiriting away the Count's daughter, Arline, only to abandon the child as she elopes with her lover, Devilshoof. Unaware of the child's royal lineage, Oliver and his accomplice, "Uncle" Stanley, step into the role of unconventional guardians, raising the young girl as their own. As the years pass, Arline, still oblivious to her noble heritage, finds herself ensnared in a perilous situation when she is apprehended trespassing on the Count's estate and hurled into the chilling depths of the dungeon. In the meantime, the bumbling duo of Stanley and Oliver engage in their dubious livelihood of picking pockets and playing "fingers," filling their time with harmless tomfoolery. Just when the hour of Arline's rescue is upon them, Stanley succumbs to the seductive allure of spirits, becoming inebriated whilst transferring wine into bottles. This comedic adventure offers a blend of mystery, humor, and the unexpected, strung together by the unlikeliest of families.
