The Bishop's Wife (1947)

In "The Bishop's Wife," Henry Brougham, a newly appointed Episcopal Bishop, finds himself entangled in the complexities of spiritual duty and worldly concerns. His dream of constructing a grand cathedral is hindered by a lack of funds, forcing him to court the affections of a wealthy, stubborn widow, Mrs. Hamilton. In the process, however, Henry becomes increasingly distant from his family and his initial calling as a man of faith, leaving his wife, Julia, yearning for their simpler past in a humble neighborhood. Just when the weight of his responsibilities threatens to overwhelm him, an angel named Dudley materializes in Henry's study, claiming to be an assistant sent in response to his prayers.
