Plot

Set in the year 907 AD, the Tang Dynasty is on the brink of collapse, its imperial family entangled in a web of internal strife. At the heart of the turmoil is Crown Prince Wu Luan, a passionate lover of dance and music, whose love for Little Wan is thwarted when his own father claims her as his Empress. Torn between love and duty, Wu Luan seeks solace in exile. The throne, however, is a seat laced with danger and bloody ambition. Wu Luan's uncle, driven by power, orchestrates a ruthless coup, murdering the Emperor and seizing both the throne and the Empress. Fearful of a rightful claim to the throne, the new Emperor dispatches assassins to eliminate Wu Luan. But the Crown Prince, as elusive as he is resilient, escapes their deadly grasp and returns to court. In a grand scheme, the Emperor plans for Little Wan's coronation and sends Wu Luan on an errand to a remote land. Simultaneously, the palace prepares for a midnight banquet to commemorate his 100th day of rule. As the night draws nearer, the palace bristles with anticipation - a lethal cocktail of poison and treachery brewing beneath the surface. The innocent love of Qing for Wu Luan introduces an added layer of complexity to the scenario. This tale, loosely inspired by Hamlet, is thus set on a collision course — a plethora of hidden agendas, unfulfilled desires, and power struggles converging on one fateful night. As the "The Night Banquet" unfolds, the Emperor, the Empress, Crown Prince, Minister, and General all harbor their own deadly intents, poised to strike at this banquet of treachery. In an empire spiraling into chaos, will there be any solace for the innocent, and any retribution for the guilty? Only the night of the banquet holds the key.
