In the heart of the suburban world, we meet Candy Wilson (Patricia Wymer), the seemingly innocent babysitter who cares for the child of George Maxwell (George E. Cary), an assistant district attorney, and his wife Edith (Ann Bellamy). Following a night of bridge, George drives Candy home, but not before getting entangled in a web of seduction at a local drive-in. As the tension thickens, Candy insightfully probes at the cracks in George's marriage.
Meanwhile, George is tasked with prosecuting Laurence Mackey (Robert Tessier), a murder suspect embroiled in a brutal gang slaying. Mackey's girlfriend, Julie Freeman (Cathy Williams), devises a plot to save him, intending to blackmail George with evidence of his illicit affair with Candy. Julie becomes the relentless observer, snapping damning photos and threatening to expose George's secret to his superior and his unsuspecting wife.
Sensing the impending catastrophe, George reaches out to Candy, acknowledging the need for their dangerous liaison to end. In a daring twist, Candy recruits Richard (Paul Wilmuth) and a friend to confront Julie, resulting in a brutal altercation that leaves Julie's apartment littered with marijuana and her hair crudely chopped off. As Julie's plan unravels, Candy seizes the negatives and destroys them, leaving no trace of their secret affair.
The subsequent day's newspaper headlines celebrate Mackey's conviction and George's triumphant prosecution. However, George, guilt-ridden, pens a resignation letter, only to have it denied by his boss, who has just received Julie's incriminating pictures via special delivery. The advice from his boss is simple - beat the postman to the punch, but alas, it's too late. Edith, instead of reacting with shock, calmly suggests a reassessment of their bridge-playing habits.
As the dust settles, we find Candy in a teen hangout, dancing to the tune of "Cathy's Theme", where she strikes up a conversation with a boy her age, telling him "You really turn me on", signifying the start of a new chapter in her life.
