Plot

In the heart of the Civil War's aftermath, Lt. Col. N.P Chipman steps into the foreboding role of an Army prosecutor, pitted against the defense attorney Otis Baker in the trial of a lifetime. Their courtroom battleground revolves around Henry Wirz, a Confederate officer accused of overseeing the horrific neglect that led to the demise of 14,000 Union prisoners in the infamous Andersonville war camp. Presiding over this tense spectacle is Gen. Lew Wallace, the judge tasked with making sense of the disturbing testimonies and determining Wirz's fate. Each witness brings a terrifying piece of the Andersonville puzzle to light, from Lt. Col. Chandler's shocking inspection of the camp to the chilling recollections of Dr. John C. Bates, whose role as the camp physician saw him bear witness to unimaginable horrors. Among the witnesses stands Ambrose Spencer, a local plantation owner who reveals the camp's chilling refusal of food from nearby residents. James Davidson, a tormented 19-year-old former prisoner, presents his haunting tale of a fellow inmate torn apart by dogs. Jasper Culver, another survivor, unveils a chilling narrative about a man known as Chickamauga. Testimony takes a darker turn when Sgt. James Gray accuses Wirz of a personal act of violence - murdering a man with his own hands. Then, in the midst of the damning testimonies, Dr. Ford emerges, the lone voice for the defense. "The Andersonville Trial" is a chilling exploration of war's aftermath, a courtroom thriller that examines the depths of human cruelty and the relentless pursuit of justice.
