In the heart of a London suburb, the story of "Take a Girl Like You" unfolds with the arrival of Jenny Bunn, a radiant, charming woman from the North, poised on the precipice of a new chapter in life as a teacher. Securing a room in the home of Dick and Martha Thompson, a middle-aged couple, Jenny finds herself in an environment of cynicism and suspicion, fueled by Martha's blatant distrust of her youthful allure. Jenny's world soon collides with Patrick Standish, a charismatic man well-known to the Thompsons. Drawn to her like a moth to a flame, Patrick escorts Jenny to a seemingly grand Italian eatery, which stands as a mere facade of suburban pretentiousness. Succumbing to the allure of the evening, Jenny allows Patrick to lead her into his shared abode with Graham, a rather unappealing Scottish schoolmaster.
