Tai Chi Zero (2012)

Born with a peculiar meaty horn on his forehead, Yang Lu Chan is often scorned as 'The Freak' by his peers in his home village. Yet this anomaly proves to be more than meets the eye, for when touched, it transforms him into an unparalleled kung fu warrior. Yet with every battle, the horn darkens ominously, heralding his impending death if it blackens completely. Following the death of his cherished mother, Yang finds solace in the teachings of his master, Lao Zhao, the revered leader of the Divine Truth army, which stands firm against the might of the emperor's forces. After a brutal assault by the emperor's soldiers leaves Master Dong fatally wounded, he imparts a final piece of advice to Yang - to seek out Master Chen Chang Xing in the distant Chen Village and learn the art of Tai Chi, a martial art form that could potentially save his life. Upon his arrival in Chen Village, Yang discovers a community hesitant to share their sacred knowledge with outsiders. He encounters Chen's fiery daughter Chen Yu Niang, who consistently overpowers him in combat, hoping to deter him. Yet a wise laborer advises Yang to observe and learn Tai Chi from her movements, turning every defeat into a learning opportunity. Meanwhile, a storm of change looms over the tranquil Chen Village. Yu Niang's former lover, Fang Zi Jing, now a European-educated man, returns with a proposition to build a railroad through their land. His proposal is rebuffed, provoking him to retaliate with an intimidating machine, a battalion of British soldiers, and the formidable Claire Heathrow, representative of the railroad. Caught between his quest for survival and the villagers' desperate fight to protect their home, Yang sees an opportunity. If he can become the hero the village needs, maybe they will entrust him with their sacred Tai Chi secrets. This sparks an epic conflict that will test Yang's courage, resilience, and his mastery over the forbidden art of Tai Chi.
