Plot

As the 19th century draws to a close, the tale of "Swept from the Sea" sweeps onto the screen, spinning a poignant story of love, acceptance and survival. Amidst the wreckage of a devastating ship crash, emerges a lone survivor - Yanko Goorall, a Russian émigré. Weary, sick, and desperately hungry, he stumbles upon a farm in an alien land where trepidation meets him at every corner. Haunted by the specter of his unfamiliarity, Yanko is regarded with fear and suspicion by all, all but one. Amy Foster, a tender-hearted servant, perceives the human beneath the stranger. In the face of widespread apprehension, Amy's kindness shines through, offering Yanko the much-needed help and solace. Simultaneously, Dr. James Kennedy, a figure of respect and authority, steps in. He takes Yanko under his wing, nurturing a bond that grows to resemble the warmth between a father and son. Yet, amidst the burgeoning relationships, a romance quietly unfurls. A connection between Amy and Yanko blossoms, an unexpected tenderness emerging from their shared experiences. "Swept from the Sea" is a stirring journey that explores the power of compassion in an atmosphere of fear, and celebrates the resilience of the human spirit against all odds. The film intertwines the bonds of love, friendship, and kinship, all set against the backdrop of an era coming to an end.
