In the bustling capital city of Seoul, a timid high-school transfer student, Na-Mi, hailing from the tranquil small town of Jeolla Province, finds herself in unfamiliar territory. Her nerves betray her, revealing her provincial dialect and shaking demeanour, making her an easy target for the city bullies. Salvation arrives in the form of a spirited group of girls, each with their own quirks: the fiercely loyal Choon-Hwa, the complex Jang-Mi longing for physical transformation, the sharp-tongued Jin-Hee, literature-lover Geum-Ok, Bok-Hee with dreams of beauty pageantry, and the perpetually confident Su-Ji.
Na-Mi swiftly becomes an integral part of this unique assembly, their bond solidifying into a formidable group named "Sunny". The girls navigate high-school life, even facing off with their rivals, Sonyeo Sidae ("Girls Generation"), with Na-Mi's unexpected profanity saving them from a crisis. Yet, a catastrophic event at the school festival prises them apart, leading them down separate paths, their vow to stay together forever fading into the annals of their shared history.
Fast forward twenty-five years, Na-Mi, now enveloped in the guise of a perfect life with a successful husband and a beautiful daughter, feels an inexplicable void. A chance encounter at a hospital rekindles her past when she runs into Choon-Hwa. Their joy at reuniting is disrupted by a phone call, and as Na-Mi prepares to leave, Choon-Hwa, now on a hospital bed, makes a heartfelt request. She wishes for the reunion of "Sunny", one last time.
As the past and present converge, Na-Mi embarks on a poignant journey to fulfil her dying friend's wish, reassembling the fragments of their fractured past and reigniting the spirit of "Sunny". This quest for reunion becomes a beacon of hope, a testament to the enduring power of friendship, and a reflection on the paths they have each taken since their sun-drenched school days.
