Summer Days with Coo (2007)

In the tranquil suburbs of Higashikurume City, Tokyo, resides fourth grader Kôichi Uehara. His ordinary life takes an extraordinary turn when he stumbles upon what he believes to be an ancient fossil. To his astonishment, the relic awakens as Coo, a baby kappa - a legendary water creature from Japanese folklore that has slumbered underground for three centuries. The two form a heartwarming bond, and Coo finds a home with Kôichi's family. Yet, despite the comfort of his new human surroundings, Coo struggles to fully adapt to modern life, yearning for the familiarity of his own kind. As the summer heat swells, Kôichi and Coo embark on a spirited journey of discovery and friendship, hoping to reconnect Coo with his long-lost family. This whimsical tale underscores the age-old adage that home is where the heart is, even if that heart belongs to a mythical creature.
