Plot

In the heart of the Los Angeles rock scene, we follow Gwen, a hard-pressed assistant to a film production designer, on her feverish journey to stardom. She's ready to sacrifice everything, even her dignity, as she attempts to seduce her boyfriend, a music producer, with sexual favors in an attempt to catapult her career. Amidst this twisted love and ambition, the producer is masterminding a revival for an erstwhile glam band led by Michael Des Barres, John Taylor, and Martin Kemp, all real-life rock stars playing fictional versions of themselves. Rosanna Arquette magnificently portrays the anxious ex-movie star wife of the band's frontman, now faced with the unnerving reality of accepting roles as the mother of the new ingenues. Beverly D'Angelo graces the screen as a wealthy patron willing to fund the band's comeback, but her generosity comes with a rather scandalous condition - a tryst with the lead singer. Sugar Town is a raw and unflinching portrayal of the trials and tribulations of the L.A. rock scene, exploring the depths of ambition, the pitfalls of fame, and the dark allure of hedonism. The film's narrative weaves through the labyrinth of the music industry, laying bare the struggles with drug addiction and the relentless pursuit of success.
