Plot

In the simmering summer of 1914, Sarajevo becomes the backdrop for a tale of loyalty, passion, and war. Dushan, the Serbian mayor of a Hungarian town, arrives in the city to witness the illustrious parade of Archduke Ferdinand. Amidst the crowd, he encounters Geza, an old comrade from the Hungarian Army, and warmly invites him to visit his home and meet his charming new wife, Irina. However, tranquility is fleeting as the assassination of the Archduke plunges the Austro-Hungarian Empire into turmoil. Dushan finds himself caught in the crossfire, struggling to maintain the loyalty of his Serbian townsfolk to Austro-Hungary whilst shielding them from the growing suspicion of the Hungarian army. In the heart of this escalating conflict, Irina's loyalties waver. Secretly harboring Serb deserters in their barn, she finds herself at odds with her husband's political stance. When Geza arrives to inspect their premises, Irina concocts a daring distraction - a flirtatious ruse that entangles her, Geza, and Dushan in a web of deception and unspoken desires. Despite seeing through Irina's ploy, Geza stays his hand, his growing affection for Irina blurring the lines of duty and love. As the war concludes and the city falls under Serbian rule, the complex love triangle unravels, triggering a relentless pursuit by the newly appointed police head, Panto. As suspicion grows, alliances shift, and hearts are tested, Storm at Daybreak unfolds a riveting narrative of love, loyalty, and war at the dawn of the 20th century.
