Plot

In the harsh urban wilderness of Manhattan, young social worker, Carrie Lange (Daphne Zuniga), ventures into the uncharted territory of homelessness in order to comprehend the trials faced by women surviving on the streets. She adopts an unconventional approach, attempting to befriend Florabelle (Lucille Ball), a resilient homeless woman with a fiercely guarded independence. Misunderstanding Carrie's intentions, Florabelle initially assumes she's a runaway and advises her to seek refuge at a homeless shelter. When Carrie steps in to prevent another woman from pilfering Florabelle's precious cart, she slowly begins to earn Florabelle's fragile trust. This marks the beginning of Carrie's enlightening journey into the brutal reality of street survival in the heart of the city. Guided by Florabelle's wisdom, Carrie learns unconventional survival tactics: acting mad to ward off threats, consuming vinegar to toughen up physically, identifying profitable garbage bins for scavenging food, and discovering secure places to sleep and stay warm. Stone Pillow is a poignant exploration of the grim realities faced by the homeless, offering a profound look into their struggles and the potential methods to empower them. This film is a compelling study of survival, resilience and the indomitable human spirit, nestled within the concrete jungle of Manhattan.
