In the bustling heart of Boston, an anomalous storm is brewing, born not from the heavens, but from the sea. Joe Randall, a widowed former Harvard professor turned high school science teacher, finds his storm-chasing days reawakened by the strange meteorological event taking shape. Teaming up with his old companion, Lee Carlton, a part-time weatherman secretly in love with Joe's sister Maddy, a police officer, they quickly discern that the storm isn't ordinary - it's extraordinary.
