Plot

In the secluded wilderness, Polly Watt and her bumbling boyfriend Seth Belzer find their tranquil camping trip abruptly disrupted when they inadvertently damage their tent. Opting to seek shelter in a low-budget motel, their journey takes an unforeseen twist when they cross paths with fugitives Lacey Belisle and Dennis Farell, who are wrestling with their own transportation troubles on the desolate road to Platt. A sudden encounter with an enigmatic splinter on the road marks the beginning of their nightmare. As they work to replace their punctured tire, they are beset by a bizarre and deadly parasite that transfigures its still-living victims into monstrous hosts. The splinter's voracious appetite for carnage sends them fleeing to the relative safety of a nearby isolated gas station, their car's overheated engine adding to their mounting troubles. But the menacing splinter is relentless, its infected, zombie-like victims converging on their sanctuary, and the unlikely quartet quickly finds themselves trapped. Facing this primal terror, the young couple and escaped convicts must cast aside differences and prejudices, combining their wits and courage to fend off the splinter's onslaught. As the night deepens, they must unravel the mystery of the splinter and find a way to survive, trapped within the confines of the gas station, amidst a terrifying metamorphosis they could never have imagined.
