In the heart of Africa, the diamond mine owner Eli Snedeker harbors a relentless greed, a resentment simmering against his ex-foreman, John Gamble. Gamble, a man of principle, thwarts Snedeker's attempt to seize control of the prosperous mine owned by the kindly, but perpetually inebriated, Roger Smythe, just as fortune smiles on him. In a vile twist of fate, Snedeker murders Smythe, cleverly framing Gamble for the heinous act. With ill-gotten diamonds in tow, Gamble escapes the continent, seeking refuge and a fresh start in the distant lands of England under a new identity. However, destiny has an unexpected encounter planned for him. He crosses paths with, and inevitably falls for, the enchanting Katherine, Smythe's daughter.
