Son of Frankenstein (1939)

Baron Wolf von Frankenstein, accompanied by his loyal servants Benson and Amelia, his wife Elsa, and their young son Peter, embarks on a journey to the birthplace of his late father, Dr. Henry Frankenstein. Wolf, who was distant from his father, is driven by a desire to reclaim his family heritage. He is aware of the unease his arrival might stir, given his father's notorious legacy of creating a destructive monster - a creature now dead but forever linked with the name Frankenstein. As they arrive, the locals, still haunted by the terror of the monster and the havoc it wreaked upon their town, are far from welcoming. Despite this, Police Inspector Krogh, bearing his own scars from the monster's mayhem, offers to protect the Frankensteins from any potential backlash. The town remains on edge, as inexplicable deaths continue to plague them, fueling suspicions that the monster may still be alive. Upon reaching his ancestral manor, Wolf is presented with a sealed briefcase by the local Burgomaster, a relic left behind by his father. Inside, he discovers his father's scientific notes, hinting at the revolutionary experiment of creating life from dead tissue. At the manor, Wolf encounters Ygor, his father's former assistant, who was also a pariah among the townsfolk after surviving a hanging. Ygor harbors a shocking revelation - the monster, thought to be long dead, is in a dormant state. Driven by his father's genius, Wolf attempts to reanimate the monster, seemingly without success. However, when Peter claims to have seen a giant figure lurking in the woods, it becomes apparent that Wolf's experiment may have been successful. As the village is once again thrown into chaos by a string of mysterious deaths, the shadow of the Frankenstein monster looms large, suggesting that Wolf may be destined to follow in his father's tragic footsteps.
