In the shadowed corners of Adelaide's northern suburbs, sixteen-year-old Jamie and his two younger brothers, Alex and Nicholas, find themselves trapped in a world of violence and despair. Their lives are confined in their sun-starved housing trust home, one of countless others housing a forgotten society. Amid the bleakness, Jamie yearns for refuge, a beacon of hope in a desolate world. His unlikely savior arrives in the form of John, a charismatic stranger whose unexpected intervention alters the course of their lives. John weaves himself into the fabric of Jamie's family, bringing with him an unfamiliar sense of stability and a semblance of family unity Elizabeth and her boys had never experienced. Transitioning from Jamie's protector to a mentor, John immerses Jamie in his universe, a world echoing with bigotry, self-righteousness, and hidden malice. Like a shadow mirroring its master, Jamie begins to absorb John's perspectives, his traits, as he sinks deeper into his sphere of influence, amidst a select cadre of friends. However, the assurance and guidance that John offers Jamie begins to dim as unsettling events unfurl around them, including the unexplained disappearance of several individuals. Jamie finds himself entangled in a web of uncertainty, his deep-seated suspicions about John and his true intentions surfacing. As the harsh reality dawns upon Jamie, his dreams of a brighter future are cast under the shadow of his loyalty to, and fear of, his father-figure, John. Based on the chilling true events that transpired in South Australia during the 1990s, this film peels back the layers of a seemingly normal family's life to reveal a horrifying undercurrent. Jamie, a victim of abuse who is easily influenced, finds himself under the wing of John Bunting, a man with deeply ingrained prejudices. As the veneer of John's charm fades away, Jamie is thrust into a sinister predicament as his friends and family start to vanish mysteriously. But as he finds himself in a situation he can't escape from, he must question his own innocence.
