Caught in the suffocating grip of her hypercritical mother's harsh words, 19-year-old Angela Bailey lives a life of self-doubt and discontent. Working as a hairdresser, she hands over her hard-earned money to her mother, a woman whose only wish is for Angela to settle down with her ex-boyfriend, Daryl Whipple.
