In the enchanting city of Edinburgh, three close-knit friends, Alex Law, David Stephens, and Juliet Miller, each a luminary in their field of newspaper writing, accounting, and medicine, find themselves in search for a fourth companion to share their flat. Their superior intellect and taste lead them to interview potential roommates in a delightfully disdainful manner, finding a wicked pleasure in their casual cruelty. The trio finally settle on Hugo, an intriguing character who quickly becomes an enigma when they discover him lifeless, naked, and surrounded by a treasure trove of cash in his locked bedroom. Faced with an ethical quagmire, the friends yield to temptation, deciding to keep the money for themselves. They meticulously plan to erase every trace of Hugo, dismembering his body and using Juliet's medical access to make identification impossible. Their actions are born out of a belief that a recluse like Hugo would have no one to miss him or come looking for him, and thus, they could enjoy their newfound wealth without repercussions. However, the allure of the money begins to cast a dark shadow over their friendship, as paranoia and self-interest grow like a poisonous vine, threatening to turn their camaraderie into a battlefield.
