In the heart of a Carpathian hamlet, a tragic romance unfolds as Ivan, a local lad, succumbs to the charms of Marichka, the offspring of his father's murderer. As disaster engulfs Marichka, Ivan's sorrow immerses him in a lengthy period of mourning. Eventually, he finds himself re-emerging into the vibrant tapestry of rural life, binding himself in matrimony to the eager Palagna. Despite her desire for offspring, Ivan remains haunted by the specter of his lost paramour. In a desperate bid to reclaim his affections, Palagna dabbles in the mystic arts, inadvertently becoming a puppet to a malevolent sorcerer. This public degradation of Ivan sparks an inevitable clash with the sorcerer. Amidst the pulsating ebb and flow of village existence, the joy and sorrow of nuptials and requiems, the cyclic dance of the seasons, and the ethereal allure of nature, Ivan's personal catastrophe plays out, painting a poignant portrait of love, loss, and life itself.
