Plot

In the captivating tale of "Seven Ways from Sundown," we meet Jones, a man whose peculiar name is the result of his father's numerical fondness and his mother's creative touch. His journey begins when he enlists in the Texas Rangers, stepping into a world of law enforcement bathed in danger and uncertainty. His inaugural assignment is far from ordinary, tasked to assist the seasoned ranger Hennessey as they embark on a mission to ensnare the elusive outlaw, Jim Flood. This notorious criminal, known for his deft evasion of the law, reigns in New Mexico, a landscape as untamed as the man they seek. Their chase culminates in a successful capture, however, this is merely the prelude to their real challenge. Their task morphs from a daring pursuit into a test of endurance as they strive to transport Flood back to Texas, a journey fraught with unforeseen perils. As the arduous journey back unrolls, an unexpected bond weaves itself between the greenhorn Ranger and the seasoned outlaw. Audie Murphy, playing the role of Jones, and Barry Sullivan as Jim Flood, brilliantly portray this complex relationship. Flood, despite numerous opportunities to escape, remains curiously loyal to his captor, creating an unspoken camaraderie between the two. Nevertheless, this unusual friendship is put to the ultimate test as they approach their destination, culminating in a dramatic climax where Sullivan's Flood, in a final act of defiance, "asks for it," and Murphy's Jones is forced to oblige. This riveting tale of pursuit, friendship, and duty is an exploration of the blurred line between good and evil, poignantly captured in the wild landscapes of the American Southwest.
