Secrets (1995)

Set against the backdrop of 1905, Secrets unfurls the tale of Etta Berter, a doctor's wife with an unfulfilled longing for motherhood. Despite having an adopted daughter, Etta's maternal yearnings remain insatiable. Their domestic scene is enlivened by the presence of their cook, portrayed by Julie Harris, who shares a warm relationship with their daughter, and her granddaughter, who serves as the family's maid. Unexpectedly, their tranquil life is perturbed by the arrival of an attractive friend of Etta's. His charismatic charm stirs the hearts of both Etta and the young maid, igniting a spark of rivalry between them. As the visitor gravitates towards the youthful allure of the maid, a pang of jealousy engulfs Etta. Her envy amplifies when the maid finds herself carrying the man's child, which ultimately fuels Etta's determination to claim the unborn baby as her own.
