Safar (1970)

In the vibrant landscape of medical academia, two young students, Neela and Avinash, are drawn to each other. Despite their mutual attraction, Avinash's impoverished background holds him back, wanting a life of comfort for Neela. Destiny takes a turn when Neela encounters Shekhar, a prosperous businessman and the elder brother of Monto Kappor, whom she tutors. Struck by cupid's arrow, Shekhar is determined to marry Neela. Shekhar seeks approval for his proposal, not from Neela's brother Kalidas, but from Avinash, the man who knows her best. Avinash, with a selfless heart, gives his blessing and Shekhar and Neela unite in matrimony. However, their happiness is tainted by Avinash's conspicuous absence from their nuptials. After a blissful honeymoon, the couple return to normal life, with Shekhar encouraging Neela to pursue her medical studies. But harmony crumbles when Shekhar discovers secret meetings between Neela and Avinash. Consumed by doubt, he instructs Monto to shadow Neela's every move. Upon gathering enough evidence, Shekhar confronts Neela about her clandestine relationship with Avinash. The confrontation leads to a heated quarrel, followed by Shekhar's collapse after taking his medicine. In a shocking turn of events, Neela is arrested for murder the next day, with Avinash mysteriously missing. Now, Neela must navigate her life through the cold bars of prison, possibly facing the daunting prospect of a death sentence, with the enigma of Avinash's disappearance adding a chilling layer to this dramatic tale.
