Plot

In the tumultuous year of 1914, amidst the stirring currents of impending war, a German supply ship cleaves through vast oceans, its belly filled with work horses destined for the arid landscapes of Africa. Among these equine passengers, a miracle unfolds as one of the mares breathes life into a newborn colt. This is the story of Lucky, the foal born in captivity, yet destined for an extraordinary journey towards freedom. Upon arrival in a hardscrabble mining community, the tender bond between mother and son is severed, leaving Lucky alone in an unfamiliar world. Life in the mines is tough, and the young horse struggles to fit in. However, amidst the grime and sweat, a glimmer of hope shines in the form of an orphaned boy toiling in the stables. A unique friendship blossoms between the boy and the colt, their shared plight fostering a profound connection. When the war drums echo across the land, chaos ensues, leaving the stable abandoned. Seizing the opportunity, Lucky breaks free, escaping into the vast desert that looms like an uncharted universe beyond the mines. Here, in the sandy expanse, he encounters an Oryx antelope and a native girl, both of whom become unlikely companions on his path towards self-reliance and survival. Running Free is an extraordinary tale, a testament to the enduring spirit of freedom and the unlikely friendships forged in the crucible of adversity. It invites you on an unforgettable journey through Lucky's life and times, a horse born in shackles but destined to gallop under the unfettered African sky.
