Plot

In the grimy backdrop of an industrial town, Rusty James, a nascent street chieftain, ruminates on the once-thriving era of gangs, guided by the spectral memory of his elder brother, The Motorcycle Boy. This enigmatic figure, a former neighborhood icon, vanished without a trace two months prior after declaring a ban on gang wars, or "rumbles." Rusty James, caught in a ceaseless cycle of posturing and bravado, breaks this treaty in a vicious clash with rival Biff Wilcox, which leaves him critically injured. It's at this pivotal moment that his brother reappears, a puzzling phantom burdened by his past and seemingly detached from the world. The ensuing days unravel Rusty James' carefully crafted facade. His life, once teetering on the edge of self-destruction, spirals into chaos as he loses his girlfriend, his friends, and most critically, his own self-assurance. His future threatens to swallow him whole, standing before him like a towering, inscrutable fortress. Surrounded by a sordid world where his mother is gone, his father drowns in alcohol, and school holds no allure, Rusty James begins to recognize the superficiality of his relationships and the emptiness of his existence. Guided by The Motorcycle Boy's enigmatic wisdom, he embarks on a transformative journey. As his life starts to crumble under the weight of one more gang fight, Rusty James learns to defy the constraints of societal expectations and confront his own inner demons, finding his first steps towards a new, uncharted life.
