Rough Night in Jericho (1967)

In the dusty town of Jericho, the charismatic yet unscrupulous ex-lawman, Dean Martin, has twisted the law to his favor, ruling the semi-lawless outpost with an iron fist. Harnessing his past as a lawman, he now controls most of the town with the aid of his loyal band of hired guns, enforcing his doctrines and exploiting his dominance for illegal gains. A stagecoach trundles through the arid landscapes outside Jericho, carrying a solitary passenger, the ex-deputy George Peppard. An unseen Martin, nestled in the wilderness, ambushes the stagecoach, leaving a trail of destruction before disappearing into the vast expanse. Upon reaching the town, Peppard crosses paths with the defiant Jean Simmons, the owner of the stage line that Martin covets but has failed to seize control of. Over time, an attraction blossoms between Simmons and Peppard, but the odds stacked against them are daunting, pushing Peppard to contemplate leaving the town. However, when Martin's men resort to intimidation, with one of them physically assaulting Simmons, Peppard decides to take a stand. Rallying the few brave men willing to resist, he spearheads an assault on Martin's empire, targeting his numerous enterprises. This defiance culminates in a final face-off between Martin and Peppard, ironically staged at the same location where Martin first ambushed the stagecoach. Their fates will be decided in the smoky aftermath of their showdown, in the heart of the town named 'Jericho'.
