Plot

In the sparkling world of Park Avenue, vivacious socialite Mary (Norma Shearer) unexpectedly finds herself wedded to the stoic English aristocrat, Lord Phillip Rexford (Herbert Marshall). Their whimsical marriage blossoms amidst London's grandeur, but soon, Lord Phillip must embark on a business journey to America, leaving Mary alone in their gilded nest. Seizing the opportunity, Lord Rexford's aunt whisks Mary away to the sun-drenched Riviera, where she unintentionally reconnects with her former flame, Tommie Treal (Robert Montgomery). Under the intoxicating influence of Mediterranean moonlight and the rhythm of the sea, Mary finds herself entangled in a scandalous romance that quickly becomes fodder for the gossip columns. Despite her innocent involvement, her explanations fall on Lord Phillip's deaf ears, his icy aloofness pushing her further into Tommie's arms. As their suppressed passion ignites, a revelation arrives from Lord Phillip's lawyer - Mary was truthful all along. In a desperate attempt to salvage their marriage, Lord Phillip urges Mary to meet him in Cannes for a fresh start. However, as fate would have it, this plea for reconciliation might just be a case of too little, too late.
