Under the vivid Hawaiian sun, the Christmas season lures the planet's finest surfers to the islands' legendary waves, particularly those of Waimea Bay. This year, the anticipation surges higher than ever; an impending storm promises waves to dwarf those of yesteryears. Among the wave chasers are three friends from Malibu: Jody Wallis, Chase Colton, and Ralph "Steamer" Lane. They know the Hawaiian surf is a formidable adversary, yet the true contest isn't only against the ocean - it's against each other. In the interim before the grand surf show at Waimea, they mingle with fellow surfers at neighboring beaches. A fiery competitive spirit blazes among them, not just to prove one's prowess on the waves, but to display the most audacious bravado. Their budding romance tiptoes around her mother's prejudice against surfers, a bias rooted in the absence of Lily's wayward surfer father. Chase, of affluent origins and traditional approach, entangles with the adventurous Augusta Poole, despite their initial frosty encounter. This unlikely duo must navigate their starkly opposing perspectives to find common ground. Lastly, Jody, the most skilled surfer of the trio, finds solace in Augie's pragmatic friend Brie Matthews who attempts to infuse a sense of responsibility into Jody's free-spirited life.
