Restless Souls (2005)

In the quaint town of Glamstrup, Signe and her industrious husband, Tommy, find themselves irresistibly drawn to a charming house for sale. Succumbing to its allure, they purchase the home, moving in with their young daughter, Bianca, and soon form a cordial relationship with their neighbors, Marianne and David. However, as Tommy is consumed by his work, curious and unsettling occurrences begin to disturb the tranquility of their new abode. A mysterious black cat materializes, the fireplace ignites of its own accord, and fruit spoils unnaturally fast. All the while, Bianca, engrossed in playful conversations with her unseen friend, Oliver, seems oblivious to the peculiar happenings. Astonishingly, Signe discovers that a tragic fire claimed the lives of two siblings, Jane and Oliver, three years prior in a different part of Glamstrup. She enlists the aid of Anders Svendsen, a noted medium, to unravel the eerie mystery. Anders makes contact with the trapped spirits, striving to guide them towards tranquility. As events unfold, Marianne offers Signe a job and a young nanny named Sarah is hired, whose flirtatious behavior towards David does not go unnoticed. Meanwhile, Tommy finds himself in Aalborg, uncovering shocking revelations about the construction of their living room, which was built using remnants from the fatal fire. Upon realizing the approaching anniversary of the tragic event, he urgently tries to return home, only to be thwarted by a car breakdown. While he is stranded, Signe delves deeper, unearthing a chilling secret surrounding the untimely demise of Jane and Oliver. This compelling narrative weaves together a tapestry of mystery, exploring the fine line between the living and the dead, and the secrets that bind them.
