Resistance (2011)

Set against the ominous backdrop of 1944, "Resistance" unravels a chilling alternate history where the Allies' D-Day invasion of Normandy has tragically failed. Europe, still shackled under the oppressive rule of Nazi Germany, reverberates with the echoes of a battle lost. Meanwhile, on the fringes of this distorted reality, an isolated Welsh village wakes to a harrowing mystery. The men, the pillars of their small community, have vanished, leaving their wives grappling with fear, uncertainty, and an eerie silence. Their wives, among them the steadfast farmer Sarah Lewis, are left to interpret their husbands' sudden disappearance. The prevailing belief is that their men have slipped away to join the resilient forces of the resistance. The tranquil village, however, is soon rattled by the arrival of German soldiers. As the village becomes a reluctant host to the occupying forces, a peculiar friendship blossoms between Sarah and the German Commander Albrecht. "Resistance" weaves a complex tapestry of survival, friendship, and loyalty, set in a haunting world where Britain has fallen partially under Nazi control, and Russia has been defeated. The film explores the human capacity to endure and adapt, even in the grimmest scenarios. This is a story of resilience and courage, of unexpected alliances, and the power of hope in the face of overwhelming odds.
